Does Thinkific charge transaction fees?
Not universally. On annual billing, Basic is $40 per month, Start is $82, and Grow is $164. Thinkific documents conditional third-party gateway fees of 5%, 2%, and 1% respectively for affected Stripe transactions in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and European Union. Thinkific Payments avoids that additional fee.
Thinkific also publishes an annual cap: the fee applies only to the first $1 million in sales made through Thinkific in a calendar year. The monthly examples below are well under that threshold.

Basic is not a tiny trial plan: it includes unlimited courses, a custom domain, quizzes, discussions, one community, checkout, order bumps, gifting, coupons, and abandoned-cart emails. Start is the practical upgrade when the product needs certificates, assignments, cohorts, memberships, subscriptions, or payment plans. Grow is mainly an operational upgrade for teams, B2B selling, deeper reporting, and integrations—not merely a cheaper-fee tier.

When Thinkific Payments is available
Thinkific says its own payment route avoids the additional third-party gateway fee. Subscription and processor costs still apply, so choose a higher plan for features or limits—not because this fee table says you must.
When a third-party gateway is used
Check whether the extra plan-based fee applies to your account. If it does, the percentage can outweigh the subscription and materially change the best plan at higher revenue.
